At SoFMCA, the mission is to provide the best ‘university offered undergraduate film, media and culture education’ in South Asia and beyond by preparing students for existing and emerging careers in filmmaking, media, OTT and the creative industries, along with training in research pathways on the entertainment industry.

We at RVU are committed to provide a dynamic and multidisciplinary learning environment that combines theory and practical to hone students’ creativity and employability. Our faculty hail from the disciplines of Humanities, Film and Media Studies, and comprise of professors-in-practice, filmmakers and visiting industry professionals to ensure that the students receive hands-on training and mentoring to develop the skills needed to succeed in their chosen field of speacialization.

Dr. Piyush Roy

Professor and Founding Dean, School of Film, Media and Creative Arts

Founding Dean

Dr. Piyush Roy is an Indian National Film Award winning critic-columnist, and an international author, curator, poet, filmmaker and professor in film, media and aesthetics studies. Former Editor of iconic film magazines Stardust and StarWeek, and a Doctoral Scholar from the University of Edinburgh, he’s published in Indian national dailies like The Indian Express, Hindustan Times, The Asian Age, The Times of India, and The Hindu, authored five books and directed three non-fiction feature films.
