RV University invites applications for Full-Time and Part-Time Ph.D. programmes across diverse disciplines. Our doctoral programmes provide academic training, interdisciplinary research opportunities, and expert faculty mentorship.
Admissions are conducted in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022, and RV University Ph.D. Programme Regulations.

Overview
Full Time and Part Time Ph.d. Options
RV University offers doctoral programmes designed to foster original research, innovation, and academic excellence. Research scholars work closely with experienced faculty and contribute to advancing knowledge in their chosen discipline.
The Part-time Ph.D. programme option is open to those candidates who are working professionals and wish to pursue doctoral studies while being in employment.
The Full-time Ph.D. programme option is open to those candidates who are not in employment and wish to pursue doctoral studies full-time.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates meeting any of the following criteria are eligible to apply:
- One year / two semester Masters’ Degree after a four year / eight semester Bachelors’ Degree, from a recognized University, in the relevant discipline, with a minimum 55% aggregate marks or the equivalent grade on a point scale, where a grading system is followed
- Two year / four semester Masters’ Degree after a three year / six semester Bachelors’ Degree, from a recognized University, in the relevant discipline, with a minimum 55% aggregate marks or the equivalent grade in a point scale, where a grading system is followed.
- Four year / eight semester Bachelors’ degree with a minimum of 75% aggregate marks or the equivalent grade in a point scale, where a grading system is followed.
- Phil. degree from a recognized University, with a minimum 55% aggregate marks or the equivalent grade on a point scale, where a grading system is followed.
(Relaxation of 5% marks applicable for SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layer)/Differently abled candidates as per UGC norms.)
Selection Process
Admission to the Ph.D. programme at RVU involves three stages:
Stage 1: Application
The application shall be vetted to review the following:
- Whether the applicant meets the eligibility criteria as outlined above.
- Whether all supporting documents are in order
- Whether the research proposal submitted by the applicant meets the plagiarism limits as per University norms. All research proposals will be checked for plagiarism and AI-generated content using approved software tools. 0-10 % similarity and 0-19% AI use is allowed.
Stage 2: Entrance Test
RV University entrance test evaluates the
- Research Methodology
- Domain-specific knowledge
Candidates who have secured 50% marks in the entrance test shall be shortlisted and called for the interview.
Candidates who have qualified the following may be exempted from writing the entrance test. However, they will be required to appear for the interview:
- UGC –Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
- UGC – National Eligibility Test (NET: Eligibility for Assistant Professorship)
- UGC – National Eligibility Test (NET: Admission to Ph.D.)
Stage 3: Interview
Shortlisted and exempted candidates will appear for an interview before an Evaluation Committee. They shall present the research proposal submitted along with their application before the Committee.

- Communication skills
- Critical Thinking & Conceptual Clarity
- Research
- Motivation
The entrance test carries 70% weightage, and the interview carries 30% weightage, in the total evaluation.
Interdisciplinary Research
RV University encourages interdisciplinary research across, the disciplines of business, computer science and engineering, economics, public policy, law, design, liberal arts, humanities, social sciences, allied and healthcare professions, film, media, and creative arts.
