About

I am a Professor of Public Policy in the School of Economics, RV University, Bangalore. I am a social scientist who has used theoretical and methodological tools of public policy, science and technology studies, health informatics, sociology, development studies and feminist science studies to closely examine implementation of new technologies. The overarching theme that connects my work has been the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for health and development. I am interested in critical analysis of design, implementation and use of ICTs, more recently AI, in public service delivery. My recent research focuses on use of AI and ICTs in nutrition health programs in India.

My doctoral research at Lancaster University, UK, titled 'Implementing public health information infrastructures in India: An ethnographic approach', explored the complex heterogeneous processes shaping and influencing the development of four e-governance projects in the Health and Family Welfare Department of Andhra Pradesh.

As a Mellon Sawyer Fellow at Cambridge University, UK, I researched on AI in healthcare in India.

The other studies have been on digital labour, national biometric identity systems (Aadhar) for social assistance programmes, data analysis and tracking of time taken to deliver various citizen services, financial inclusion and rural business process outsourcing sector.

My previous appointments include: Advisor, Google Health AI; Lead, Open Data Research at Public Affairs Centre; Research Scientist and Assistant Professor at the Ramalingaswami Centre on Equity and Social Determinants of Health, Public Health Foundation of India, Bengaluru; Post Doctoral Researcher and Program Manager, Centre for Public Policy, Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.

I have taught at Lancaster University, UK, IIMB, BR Ambedkar School of Economics, Bangalore University, Administrative Training Institute, Mysore and Chanakya University.

I have also consulted and collaborated on research studies with London School of Economics, National Institute of Advanced Studies at Indian Institute of Science and Health Information Systems Programme, India (University of Olso, Norway) and University of West of England, Bristol, UK and Open University, Milton Keynes, England.

Prior to my doctoral study I was a journalist with The New Indian Express and Financial Express in Bangalore.
