Home 5 Research 5 Centre for Immersive Media and Interactive Systems (CIMIS)

The Centre for Immersive Media and Interactive Systems (CIMIS) is an interdisciplinary research centre dedicated to advancing research, innovation, and collaboration in immersive technologies, interactive systems, and experience design. The Centre brings together faculty, students, researchers, and industry partners to explore how emerging technologies can be applied to create meaningful, accessible, and human-centred experiences.

CIMIS operates at the intersection of design, technology, and research, supporting practice-led inquiry, applied research, and interdisciplinary collaboration across domains such as spatial computing, extended reality (XR), interaction design, games, consumer experience, and digital media.

Our work spans five focus areas:

Immersive Media & Spatial Computing: Research and development in virtual, augmented, and mixed reality, spatial interfaces, and immersive environments.

Human Experience & Interaction Design: User experience, human-computer interaction, embodied interaction, accessibility, and experience evaluation across emerging technologies.

Games & Interactive Systems: Serious games, gamification, simulation, interactive storytelling, and real-time interactive experiences.

Applied Research & Innovation: Faculty-led research projects, interdisciplinary collaborations, consulting opportunities, and partnerships with industry and external organisations.

Education & Capacity Building: Workshops, seminars, collaborative research, student-led innovation, and initiatives that integrate immersive technologies into design education.

Through research projects, workshops, conferences, industry collaborations, and consulting initiatives, the Centre aims to strengthen RV University’s contribution to immersive media research while creating opportunities for interdisciplinary learning and innovation.
