Using sounds to study wildlife
4 April 2024 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm Biotech Seminar Hall, RV University, Bengaluru
About the speaker Dr. Anand Krishnan is trained in comparative neurobiology, with an interest in birds going back over 30 years. He studies diverse organisms (primarily birds) as a way to understand the context, function, and physical principles underlying animal form, biomechanics, and bioacoustics. Simultaneously, he uses sound and other non-invasive methods to study basic ecological processes. He has particular interests in barbets and tropical and subtropical grassland and scrub habitats of the Indian Subcontinent. Finally, he studies the biomechanics of bird bills, a critical and multi-functional structure. In addition to the above, he has a great interest in his tory of biological exploration, particularly within South Asia, and in what we can learn from museum collections around the world. Before joining JNCASR's Evolutionary and Organismal Biology Unit, Dr. Krishnan was a DST-INSPIRE Faculty Fellow at IISER, Pune, and Assistant Professor at IISER, Bhopal.
