OPAC is an online database or catalog that allows users to search library resources using key words such as Title, Author, Accession Number, ISBN, ISSN, Call Number, etc.
What is Accession Number?
An accession number is a sequential unique number given to each new book entered as part of library catalogue to identify an individual book.
What is ISBN in the book?
ISBN stand for International Standard Book Number, it is a unique identifier assigned to books. ISBN is typically 13- or 10-digit number, although in the past, it is used to be 10 digits. The 13-digit ISBN is divided into five parts separated by hyphens. The parts included Prefix Element, The Registration Group Element, The Registrant Element, The Publication Element and The Check Digit.
What is ISSN in the periodicals?
An International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) is a unique eight-digit number used to identify a print or electronic periodical publications.
What is Call Cumber?
A call number is located at the bottom of the book on the spine label and on barcode labels pasted on the cover page and back page of the book. It helps you to find your books quicker.
What is Classification System in the library?
In library science a classification system is used to organize and categories library resources. It provides a systematic way to arrange items on library shelves to retrieve easily for the library users. There are different types of classification systems such as DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification), CC (Colon classification), UDC (Universal Decimal Classification) etc.
Which Classification System RVU Library follows?
RVU Library follows DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification). DDC is the most widely used classification system developed by Melvil Dewey in the late 19th century. DDC covers ten major classes and each major class covers one subject area.

How do I get RVU Library membership?
All the students and research scholars who have successfully completed admission formalities at RV University are, by default, library members. Faculty and staff members who have completed the joining formalities and have obtained RV University employee ID are also members of the library.
How do I get Library ID Card?
Upon successful admission students and scholars will get their University smart ID card that can be used as Library ID to access the library. Similarly, after successful joining formalities faculty and staff members will be issued Smart ID cards that can be used to access the library.
How do I borrow library resources?
To borrow books from the library, please ensure that you visit the library and present your ID card at circulation desk.

What happens if a borrower returns the book after the due date?
If the borrower fails to return the book on or before the due date, a fine of ₹ 5/- per day will be charged as an overdue fee. Borrowers are kindly requested to return or renew the book on or before the assigned due date.
What happens if a borrower Loses or Damages the book?
A borrower who Loses or Damages (any kind of damage) a book must report it to the Librarian, RV University and will be required to pay TWICE THE COST of a specific book. However, for foreign books, the current conversion rate will be applied, while for Indian books, the current price will be considered.
