Appreciating Cinema - A weekend certification course in Film Criticism RV University campus
A three-day full-time, Weekend Film Appreciation course will be held at Bangalore from 10th to 12th February 2023 under the joint auspices of RV University, Bangalore and FIPRESCI, India. This is an intensive course designed to promote comprehensive understanding and offer insights into the nature of cinema and other related forms and practices. These include recent developments like independent films, digital art and diverse practices that come under the broad umbrella of New Media.
The course is primarily designed to meet the needs of teachers, scholars, and students interested in introducing film study activities in educational institutions. It is also for cinephiles, media practitioners, film society organisers, students, researchers, and government officials. The curriculum includes theoretical study of the art and history of film and the development of cinema as a medium of art and communication. Conceptual areas of cinema like time, space, mise-en-sceÌ€ne, genres and movement are integral components of the five-day programme. Participants will be introduced to the changing nature of film production and its evolving relationship with the digital arts. Classics, short films and non-fiction films – both Indian and International – will be used for critical analysis and study.
