About the speaker:
Mr. Umesh Kadam holds an LL.M., M.Phil (Education), and Ph.D. (International Law) from Shivaji University, Kolhapur; LL.M. in International Law from the University of London and a Diploma in International Law from Aristotelian University, Thessaloniki, Greece. From 1980 until 1998, he taught international law in various Indian law schools and colleges, including six years at ILS Law College, Pun,e and four years at the National Law School of India, Bangalore. In 1998, he was invited by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to work as a Regional Legal Adviser. He worked for the ICRC for twenty years in South Asia, South-East and East Asia, and East Africa. He retired from the ICRC in March 2018. Since then, he has worked as a Consultant for some international agencies, including the ICRC Regional Delegation for South Asia in New Delhi. He also works as a Visiting Professor of International Law at Symbiosis Law School, Pune, National Law University, Delhi, National Law Institute, Bhopal, and NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. He has published about thirty articles/research papers on international law, space law, human rights,s and humanitarian law issues in India and abroad. His areas of particular interest include International Humanitarian Law, International Migration Law, International Criminal Law, and New Technologies of Warfare and International Law.
