Dr. K.S. James

K.S. James is the former Director and Senior Professor at the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai. He held the position of Professor of Population Studies, at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi before joining IIPS. He is currently a senior research scientist at Tulane University, USA. He holds postdoctoral training from Harvard Centre for Population and Development, Harvard University, USA, and Ph.D from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He works extensively on demographic changes with a focus on population and development. The other area of his interest is data systems and measurement. He has published widely on demographic transition and the demographic dividend in India in journals such as Science, Lancet Global Health, BMC Public Health, Social Science and Medicine, Population and Development Review, Population Studies, Ageing International, Brown Journal of World Affairs, Economic and Political Weekly, etc. He has been a visiting fellow in many prestigious institutes and universities including Harvard University, USA; London School of Economics, UK; International Institute for Applied System Analysis (IIASA), Austria, University of Southampton, UK and University of Groningen, The Netherlands.
