School of Economics organized a two-day workshop – Public Policy Lab recently in collaboration with Fields of View. Through games and simulations the students could critically engage with complex societal issues, especially in the realm of rights, democracy, justice, intersectionality and environment issues.
Game1: Solemnly Resolve
The game focused on creating a preamble of the constitution. The students assumed the roles of different civic actors and stakeholders in a newly formed nation. The decisions and choices that they made collectively defined the constitutional values and shaped the society’s future.
Game 2: Rubbish
The game involved students understanding the waste management system at both the micro and macro levels and managing Dry Waste Collection Centres. They also had to address the behavioural and economic aspects of waste and collaboratively work to minimise the waste being dumped in the landfills.
Game 3 + Simulation : Hanigalu or droplets
Hanigalu is a simulation game that focused on water security planning by exploring different scenarios and trade-offs related to water security at the local level. The students in different groups discussed and decided their course of action.
Game 4: Made to Order
Students playing this game said that it was very intense as they experienced impediments due to caste, class, gender and being poor. They realised how their lives and daily decisions were influenced by management decisions, inequities and policies that were not favourable to them.
