Using an interdisciplinary approach that seeks to bridge international and domestic dynamics, this program equips students with skills to identify and analyse public policy issues from a global and comparative perspective.
Students will engage in a wide range of topics, with a focus on public policy formulation, analysis and implementation, including the design and execution of delivery systems.
Specific emphasis will be on the emerging technologies for the digital transformation of governance in response to global challenges of social, demographic, economic, and climate changes.

Learning Outcomes

Throughout the two-year Master’s program in Public Policy, students will:

Explore and apply a wide range of public policy concepts and theories, gaining a deep understanding of the field.
Critically assess the diverse challenges and processes involved in policy-making across different global contexts.
Develop a multi-disciplinary perspective on public policy, including insights into international development.
Investigate the successes and failures of public policies at both national and global levels, learning from real-world examples.

The MA in Public Policy is an 80-credit, two-year, full-time postgraduate program structured across four semesters, with field engagements integrated throughout the duration. Semester IV in the MA in Public Policy program, involves activities beyond the classroom:

International Exchange/Internship
This component is for 4 credits and lasts between 3 to 4 weeks. It provides students with practical experience in a public policy setting, either locally or internationally, helping them apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world context.
Field Research
Field research is for 6 credits and lasts for 8 weeks. Students engage in field research, collecting data and gaining hands-on experience in public policy analysis, often working on real-world challenges, urban spaces, or in rural areas to address practical problems.
Dissertation
The dissertation is worth 6 credits. This component involves independent, in-depth research on a specific public policy topic and serves as a major academic project for students, where they apply their learning to produce original research.
Documentation and Journaling
This component is worth 2 credits and involves keeping a detailed record of the student’s experiences, reflections, and learning outcomes throughout their internship and research projects. It helps students track their progress and critically assess their learning journey.
Viva (for both Internship and Dissertation)
The Viva is for 2 credits and involves an oral examination where students present and defend their research for both the internship and dissertation. It tests their knowledge, critical thinking, and ability to discuss their work.

In total, these courses amount to 20 credits in Semester IV.

Assessment and Grading

Continuous Internal Evaluation through tests and presentations for 70 marks;
Semester End Evaluation through written examination or submission for 30 marks.

Course Overview

At RV University, we strive to provide students with a holistic outlook on business administration discipline. We like to keep them abreast with the pertinent events so as to prepare them for the future. We encourage students to be curious and courageous to question the existing practices. We equip them with skill-sets to help them deconstruct the existing policies, practices and reframe them for the current needs. RV university believes that change is the only constant and that one needs to at least keep pace with it. We do not limit our curriculum to the conventional courses seen across established institutes. Instead, we endeavour to expose students to contemporary issues such that they can be the harbinger of change that the industry desires. Our curriculum is designed so as to inculcate knowledge through practice and collaboration with industry and academic experts. We at RV university take due cognizance of a student’s individuality and wish to aid them in their career growth.

The curriculum is built to provide a comprehensive understanding of the four pillars of Business Administration: Finance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and Business Analytics. Each of these pillars is offered to students to opt from as their major. However, in the spirit of providing freedom to the students, we do not limit a student to courses that they wish to major in. Additionally, we expose students to academic writings, digital literacy, and debates, which do not fall in the scheme of things in most of the schools across the nation.

The whole duration of the Programme is divided into three major parts. The first year is devoted to building a liberal foundation of the students which holds the student in good stead for the future irrespective of the major or area that she/he opts for. The first half of the second year is devoted to the core of general management principles, which entails managerial economics, managerial accounting, operations management, and organizational behaviour. The rest of the duration of the Programme is devoted to the core topics of the specialization that a student wishes to major in. The last semester of the curriculum enables the students to go in-depth about the career track they wish to take up.

Programme Overview

The M.Sc. in Economics programme in SOEPP prepares students for future careers in academics and in diverse industry-related fields in economics, such as development policy, financial economics, econometrics, and data analytics.

The curriculum is designed to lay equal emphasis on theoretical understandings in economics and its applications in multiple fields within and outside of the discipline of economics. Data and evidence driven understanding of economic theories and issues is encouraged.

Hands-on learning through industry exposure, self-study, research and projects are an integral and important part of the programme. This component of the programme allows students to develop and enhance their skills in critical thinking, analytical abilities, data collection and analysis, problem solving, independent research and study, and presentation and writing skills.

Most courses are 4 credits. Each credit translates to 15 contact hours. At least 30 per cent of contact time for courses are spent in tutorials, discussions, or applications. Pedagogies vary across courses. Some of the courses are taught courses with a heavy theoretical component. Class lectures in these courses are interspersed with tutorials. At least 30 per cent of the contact hours in these courses are in the form of tutorials that elicit better understanding and critical thinking among students. Other courses balance theories with experiences and applications. These courses are taught in a more discursive mode and 30-50 per cent of the contact hours are in the form of discussions, student presentations, data analysis and software applications.

On completion of the MA programme students are equipped with a Master’s degree in Economics with a specialisation of their choice, certified industry experience, a self-study paper or project report in the area of specialisation, and a dissertation thesis to support their experiences and expertise.
